Lessons from History–Charles Surgeon
(Monday, Nov 14, 2011) Do any of you know who I am? I’ve been called the greatest English-speaking preacher ever. I preached a dozen sermons a week, to crowds of up to 10,000 (with no PA system), and at 22 was the most popular preacher of my day. At 27 my church built a new building which could hold 6,000 people and it was filled for every service (Sunday morning, evening, and during the week) we had for the next 30 years. Mine was the first mega-church, the largest in the world then. Tens of thousands were saved listening to me. I have more books in circulation than any English writer, even Shakespeare (300 million copies of 130 books in 22 languages). Sixty-three volumes of my sermons are published.
